Diving Medicine Courses
The
Aberdeen Hyperbaric Medicine Unit runs courses in Diving Medicine. For
the first time in 2012, courses will be run in collaboration with DDRC.
With the same course content in each venue, participants can attend one
or both levels, either back-to-back or spreading the training through
the year.
Courses planned for 2012:
- Introductory course in Diving Medicine (DMAC Level I - Medical Examiner of Divers)
- A one week (5 day) course designed for practitioners with no previous experience or knowledge of diving. It covers the principles, the physics, physiology and medical aspects of fitness to dive. Aetiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of diving related disorders are covered but not with the intention that delegates will be competent to manage diving medical emergencies. The course is recognised by HSE as providing appropriate instruction for doctors who wish to become approved by HSE to conduct medical examinations on commercial divers.
- Dates:
23rd - 27th April Aberdeen
17th - 21st September Plymouth - Advanced Course in Diving Medicine (Level IIa - Diving Medical Physician)
- A one week course for doctors with some previous knowledge of diving
medicine which concentrates on the medical problems of both sport and
commercial air and nitrox diving. It aims to provide familiarity with
recompression therapy and enable attendees to be competent in planning
the management of diving casualties.
The Level IIa course assumes knowledge from a Level I course or equivalent. - Dates:
